Castle Farming/Making a Million Meat
« on: August 16, 2008, 02:05:01 PM »
Meat.  Basis of the KoL economy and basis of clan karma.  The more of it you have, the easier the game is (including the hardcore game, excluding Bad Moon) and the faster you can gain access to Hobopolis (should you wish to do so).

Making millions of meat in KoL is fairly straightforward if you use your initial resources wisely.  What follows is a quick guide to what you can expect to recover from farming the Castle in the Sky and is aimed at the newer player.

Firstly, what can you expect from boosting +item% (numbers are meat-per-adventure; note that the combat rate assumes you turn the wheel to its non-stat boost position)

Boost%  Raver   Procrastination  Possibility  Goth     Furry    Alphabet  Expected at 82% combats
0          167.14  40.02              91.40        205.76  132.96  111.20    178.43
25         208.93  50.02             114.25       257.20  166.20  139.00    204.01
50         250.71  60.03             137.10       308.64  199.44  166.80    229.58
75         292.50  70.03             159.95       360.08  232.68  194.60    255.15
100       334.28   80.04             182.80       411.52  265.92  222.40    280.72
125       376.07   90.05             205.65       462.96  299.16  250.20    306.30
150       417.85  100.05            228.50       514.40  332.40  278.00    331.87

and now, what you can expect from increasing +meat% (numbers are meat per adventure)

Boost%  82% combat expected
0          123.00
25         153.75
50         184.50
75         215.25
100       246.00
125       276.75
150       307.50
175       338.25
200       369.00
225       399.75
250       430.50
275       461.25
300       492.00

Looking at the resources available to a new player, a meat increase rate of +200% is easily achieved (30lb Leprechaun and Polka of Plenty) alongside an item increase rate of +50% (mostly from easily sourced items)

From the above tables this gives you an average return of 369.00+229.58* = 598.58 meat per adventure

(*The above figures assume you take advantage of wadbot and smash then sell the wolf masks and giant needles at 300 meat per wad)

598.58 meat per adventure x 200 adventures per day = 119716 meat per day from the castle.

1 million meat with this sort of setup is 1,671 adventures, or about 8 days.

Alongside this, it is extremely profitable to sell the semirares that you would accrue during this period.  Meat-wise the knob lunchboxes and massage oils are pretty good, as is the Inhaler from the Castle in the Sky.  If you assume that you can get 70K per semirare the time take to reach 1 million meat drops to around 5.25 days.

1 million in 5.25 days.  1.3 million in a week.  A Mr A per month.  All this is easily within the grasp of the newest members of the kingdom.  Of course, the trade-off is mindless clicking for a while....

edit: after reading the above, does this sit better in the clan guides section?
edit2: tidied up a bit.  this forum doesn't appear to do tables very well...

Nice, simple guide for newer ones.  Would have liked to have had this when I first started playing :P

Thank you!  This should be very useful... although I may never need it, with how lucky I've been!

The hobo monkey makes meat farming even easier :)

As do other things from Hobopolis like:

Ballad of Richie Thingfinder
Crumpled Felt Fedora
Chorale of Companionship
The Lean Times (I think)

And several other things that I'm much too lazy to look up... :P

Hodgman's garbage sticker converts hobo power to meat drops, so that'd be useful if you had + hobopower items

one thing i do to meat farm after the hippy/frat war is over is i clear out the ducks because they have good meat drops as well, especially the rotund ones, and then i visit the fruit stand for a few k every day.

Ooh...nice guide. It might be helpful to put prices of things and how you get them (talking about the meat/item percent increasers) if you so inclined, but I easily looked them up on colfront.

Thanks for the help!

I think it needs to be noted in here that there isn't a single semi-rare that will sell for even 35k, let alone 70k.
