DMI error
« on: September 16, 2010, 08:38:55 AM »
When I boot up my computer I often get a DMI error and the computer stops booting up.
Am I correct in thinking that its something with either the BIOS or CMOS?
I am thinking the cmos got corrupted.
This started after we lost power during a storm a few months ago and no one  was home to turn off the computer.

Yeah that's a hardware / BIOS error. You could try resetting your BIOS to defaults and then tweaking the settings how you like from there (some defaults aren't what you might want). If there's a reset PnP info or reset configuration data (something like that) you can set that to enabled or yes and that might help after the next reboot.

If you haven't shut it completely down and unplugged it do that (I hate saying this because this is the standard tech support guy doesn't know how to fix much answer to all problems :P ). Electrical storms that mess with your power can really mess with computer equipment and I've seen stuff "work half way" until it's powered off completely.

If you haven't ran chkdsk to fix file system errors do that also. Shouldn't be related but it's a good idea to run that after any improper shutdown.

Check any add-in cards if you have any. You could flash the BIOS if it's running pretty stable but I wouldn't try that if it's not unless you're desperate.
