if you equip a time helmet does it only give you an extra adventure occasionally? that seems like a march hare a tiny bit to me but i dont think it would be very good for HC...

until more spading is done i will have to see, but so far it doesn't look that great

Depends on how often you get the extra adventure with the time helmet and if you own one (I do).  After all, the temporal rifltet only gives you an extra adventure ~5% of combat advs...

i mean, i just don't see it being much use for just the extra adventure. i've got a time helm too, but it would be no use in hardcore (maybe equip beret/pith for excellent results, more data needs to be spaded) and i just don't see myself putting my time helmet on my familiar for the chance that i would get an extra adventure but nothing else...

it looks like a great familiar for the hearts. i don't see it being optimal in any way (although i am not optimal, the BarKOL test never really showed accurate results as to what i am), and i don't see it being useful for pvp or any type of farming.

but like i said, it still needs to be spaded before i think we could reach an accurate verdict.

I rather like the look of the hattrack - and judging by the 'ooh - look what it can do if you equip X' comments above, the uses of this one will grow on a daily basis for some while yet.  As I said in Brute's other familiar thread, I see the hattrack being useful in HC, particularly if you have the armourcraftiness skill to enable you to make the high-end, more useful hats.  It's not a random familiar, rather a highly flexible familiar - a jack of all trades type that we haven't seen before.

On another note, does anyone know if having a custom title activates the 'no delete' flag?

@Daitezen: According to the talk page, it's weaker. At least regarding meat drops (vs leprechaun). :-\

The one thing I like about it, is that new hats = potential new/+powerful effects :)

Which hat was that with though?

I welcome the hattrack as it brings with it a genuine strategic dimension - do I adventure to get a specific hat to use, do I use up adventures crafting one, should I wear the hat or should my familiar, how u mine 4 fish, that kind of thing :)

Wreath of Laurels (+meat & +items), which makes a really chubby hatrack (40lbs), turned out to be a disappointing fairychaun at 50% power.

fairychaun=2 Mr A
hattrack=1 Mr A

Seems fair to me...

But, can a fairychaun generate stats, MP, HP or attack (elementally)?

Dunno, this familiar makes you look for specific hats, depending on the effects you are looking for. Hats you wouldn't otherwise bother farming.

Regarding stats, you'd need to get a bum cheek (5lbs), asshat (7lbs), barskin hat (13lbs), dragging balls hat (25lbs)...

And since familiar buffs don't seem to work, you would be losing out a lot. Of course, it all comes down to how much you value stat gains (I value them highly).

Of course, in softcore you don't have to worry about any of that.

Permanent equip of a Brimstone Beret anyone?

If it becomes a volleychaun at 1/2 weight, I'd say it's a no no. >_>

i think we should also think of possible future iotms in here and discuss them.

what about a leprechaun that gives meat based on ML and restores hp/mp or something

What about a leprechaun that gives meat based on the amount of bat guano in your inventory?

Man, that would drive bats to extinction!

Well, we *have* started to see a trend where familiars change their behaviour when fed an item (PRESSIE and Wizard (equipment), Green Ghost and Spirit Hobo (food), Comma Chameleon and Hatrack (items)) so bat guano is a possibility (though something that ate enchanted beans to yield something relatively powerful would be interesting in terms of adventuring at a low level to get the items -v- usefulness of end effect)

I suspect its only a matter of time before we get a combat familiar that can equip weapons and something that gives you HP/MP replenishment when fed wads, nuggets and powders :)

Personally I would like to see an IotM that uses that vacant container slot of mine, regardless of how crappy the actual enchantments on it are (a swag bag that increases item% a little or occassionally drops items that give a buff like the crimbo troll?).

Brimstone Beret is a full-weight volleychaun.
Wreath of Laurels is a half-weight fairychaun.
Jeweled-Eyed Wizard Hat makes a 2-lbs (capped weight) hatrack a 10-lbs volleychaun that does ridiculous damage.
