Summary:
The slime tube consists of a single zone populated by slimes of various sizes.  Ideally, ML is
maximized to encounter larger slimes which allow for quicker zone completion.  Key threats
include the effect ĎCoated in Slimeí which does an increasingly high amount of damage as the
number of turns of it remaining decrease.

Completion:
There are a total of 400,000 units worth of slime within The Slime Tube and a Mother Slime that
must be defeated to complete the zone. The amount of slime destroyed per encounter is 400+ML.

Recommended Course of Action:
Designate a Slime Tube specialist; preferably one with access to a goodly amount of +ML and a Muscle class.
Execute low-speed runs to build a supply of chamoix, alevoli, bladders and sweetbreads. This may be a good opportunity to build a set of Slime-covered items for the Tube specialist. (In particular, a rusty grave robbing shovel.)
Several high-speed runs, likely utilizing slimy alevoli and the other in-zone drops will be required to obtain an average of 553ML to obtain caustic slime nodules. (The three drops will offer +100ML, in addition to the +100ML available in-zone.)
Construct, probably in this order, a Villainous Scythe and a corroded item of your choice. (The cowl and breeches may be used for an outfit.) Fill in the remaining equipment slots with slime-covered items and a chamoisole. Modify number of corroded items and slime-covered items as needed depending on your current ML.

"Cheap" Method:
Encounter a slime with an exceptionally low ML to obtain a high-turn Coated In Slime. Drowsy Sword (-10 monster level) and nasty rat mask (-5 ML) are good for a low ML outfit.
Depart from the encounter, preferably via tattering (won't use an adventure and thus won't decrease turns of coated in slime).
   Raise ML.

Encounters (organized by ML):
   0 to 100: Slime
10-11 turns of Coated in Slime (0% hp)
   101 to 300: Slime Hand
8-9 turns of Coated in Slime (20.1% hp)
   301 to 600: Slime Mouth
5-7 turns of Coated in Slime (132.5% hp, 3 resistance required)
   601 to 999: Slime Construct
2-4 turns of Coated in Slime (400.2% hp, 11 resistance required)
-   1000+: Slime Colossus
1 turn of Coated in Slime (533.4% hp, 14 resistance required)
      How is this encountered?
   Boss: Mother Slime
Adapts to elemental damage. Must use different forms of physical and elemental damage to defeat.
Notable drops include: chamoisole (rare), slime alveoli (690 turns, 180ML), caustic slime nodule (420 turns, 553 ML), squirming Slime larva (231 turns, 1340 ML *)

Encounter Notes:
The slime that is encountered, and the amount of turns of Coated in Slime recieved, is directly related to the amount of +ML. Every 100 ML, or fraction thereof, reduces the number of turns recieved. As a result, it is recommended to operate just under a multiple of 100.
If the uvula has been tickled, equipping a rusty item will allow you to obtain a slime-covered version of it.

Negative Effects:
Coated in Slime - Remove using the chamoix bucket. The VIP Room Hot Tub and Vermincelli also remove it. (Other than saving chamoix, there's no advantage to letting Coated in Slime tick down.)
Turns Remaining      Percent MaxHP Damage      Resistance Required
      10                         0                  0
      9                        6.7                  0
      8                        20.1                  0
      7                        43.9                  0
      6                        80.6                  0
      5                        132.5                  3
      4                        201.7                  6
      3                        290.3                  8
      2                        400.2                  11
      1                        533.4                  14

Noncombats:
   Engulfed!
Tickle the uvula: Allows a single slime-covered item to be generated per tickle. (Current data suggests that it may be done once per person.)
Squeeze the gall bladder: +20ML in the zone, up to +100ML (5 uses)
   Showdown
Fight: Fight Mother Slime, the zone boss

Drop Notes:
Marbles may be USEd when you have more than one to combine them into a larger marble.

Notes:
El Vibrato relics are superior in a standard outfit if properly carded, courtesy of BLUff bLufF the StUPId ogRE.

Equipment Notes:
Slime Optimal is, to date, the optimal setup of equipment. The specific items are largely irrelevant (though some will be clearly superior to others depending on ones class) but the key element is that four slime-covered items must be equipped
Recommended Equipment:
Slime Optimal (837ML or 324 to 352 turns)
Note: Precise items may vary by class and availability. Regardless, four slime-covered slot, the chamisole, three corroded slots and the bitter pill. Unfortunately, replacing a slime-covered slot with a corroded slot will render this build fatal, unless your ML is decreased by three.
Slime Theoretical (1724.5 ML or 180 turns)
Note: This equipment set does NOT take slime resistance into account. There is an inadequate amount of slime resistance to survive.
   Non-Slime Theoretical (527.5 ML or 390 to 432 turns)
For those with an infinite budget.
Non-Slime High End Practical (412.5 ML or 439 to 493 turns)
For those well equipped already, or for stunt runs.
   Non-Slime Casual (127 ML or 679 to 759 turns)
      For the casual tuber.
Noncombat Only (100ML or 800 turns)
No Equipment (0ML or 1000 turns)
      For the idiot.

* Without stat buffs and a good set of skills it might be very risky for < level 40 characters to attempt scripted familiar runs. Using a > level 40 muscle class with a very good set of skills my HP dipped as low as 38 during scripted runs. At level 41 without buffs a muscle class with good skills should be pretty safe.

Note: It is possible to stack expensive/hard to get buffs by not adventuring and using the Platinum Yendorian Express Card and Bag o' Tricks daily until you have enough turns to complete a run. This could be done individually or with a team to reduce non-adventuring days required. Using this method along with newly released +ML effects no top leaderboard spot is secure indefinitely.

Familiar runs and even nodule runs really require KoLmafia and scripting. Even with KoL's built in scripting it's painfully slower and more work. Manually doing it would be truly insane. Get the script here: http://alhifar.dyndns.org/mafia/scriptlets/slime.ash and read about the script here: http://www.kolmafia.us/showthread.php?t=2014

Since Aoi's guide is geared more towards the mechanics of the tube for acquiring nodules and the slimeling I figured I'd try to make more of a newb intro and basic mechanics guide to go along with it. Here goes. :)

The basic mechanics are very simple. There are 1000 slimes to kill. Raising ML (monster level) counts towards additional kills. Different tiers of ML will change the slimes you encounter, affect the items you get, and the number of turns of coated in slime you get. The fewer turns of coated in slime you have the more slime damage you'll take.

0-100 ML slimes will drop slimy sweetbreads, slimy fermented bile bladder, tiny slimy cyst, wad of slimy rags
gives 10-11 turns of Coated in Slime

101-300 ML slimes will drop tiny slimy cyst, slimy sweetbreads, slimy fermented bile bladder
gives 9-8 turns of Coated in Slime

301-600 ML slimes will drop small slimy cyst, slimy sweetbreads, slimy fermented bile bladder
gives 7-5 turns of Coated in Slime

601-1000 ML slimes will drop medium slimy cyst, slimy sweetbreads, slimy fermented bile bladder
gives 4-2 turns of Coated in Slime

1000+ ML slimes will drop big slimy cyst, slimy fermented bile bladder, slimy sweetbreads
gives 1 turn of Coated in Slime

If your goal is farming marbles for the trophy then 301-600 ML is optimal. Medium and big slimy cysts both drop unique non-tradeable items so if you want those items you either have to gather them yourself or buy them in the mall. If you're trying to gain stats those items can be sold to help pay for chamoix (if you need them). Currently the ML increase from slime hates it gear (created with nodules and slime covered items) is better than anything else. Stat gains greater than clover or sign gym adventuring are possible which is very useful for leveling up quickly.

If your goal is lowest possible turn count (slimeling perhaps) you have to change gear, MCD (mind control device, detuned radio, or The Annoy-o-Tron 5000) and familiar to lower ML to get higher turns of coated in slime since lower turns (high ML) will instantly kill you. You also have to CLEESH or escape combat with divine champagne popper (or similar) items to avoid killing the slime with lower ML. That pretty much requires using KoLmafia and the script mentioned later in this tread since doing all that manually every few adventures is too time consuming. The slime suit has excellent elemental resistance so collecting that is very useful for trips to Fernwarthy's Basement or other cases where elemental resistance is needed. Some of the items crafted with nodules are quite useful. The prismatic damage and MP restore of the malevolent medallion for example. Hopefully this partially answers the question of what is the point of the slime tube.

The wiki has most of this information so some of this is redundant.

When slime hates it is set to 8 it should add the cost of bitter pills. There is also no calculation for tattered scraps or divine poppers. Tattered scraps are subject to RNG hate though. I had one successful familiar run (less than 230 adventures) where I ran out of tattered scraps and I thought I had about 300 of them.

Very handy though. I could shave a lot off the cost of buffs if I ran the bare minimum but if something goes wrong at that level the whole run is ruined when it comes to familiar runs.

Freakin'... can it be set to allow *.xlsx
...Bloody re-submit censor...

Yes but it's considered a security risk. If the forums get hacked I'm blaming you.  :P

I'm guessing you have to manually put in the weight of the purse rat since it defaults to 10 when you check it? Maybe it could assume 20+5 (familiar equip) and automatically add all the buffs/effects/skills to the weight automatically so it matches the in game totals?

The green section below the equipment doesn't add its totals to the subtotals for that column. There's no total cost box?

Side note-- Know of any script that can take a list of stuff and pull mall prices for it? That'd be handy for easily updating the costs.

Pricegun does that... But I don't know if you'd be able to tweak the code on it's script to your own purposes...

Total monster level is broken. That also seems to break the total turns.

Sympathy and the annoy-o-tron don't seem to be added. Subtotal formula wasn't adding the new stuff you added. Easy fix. Problem is that it rounds 2.5 up to 3. Not sure if it does that for all of them or not but it could cause a failed run by rounding up. :)

Bitterskin cost isn't added to the subtotal either. Poppers and tatter estimates are both added to the total. I just removed the poppers cell from the formula since I use tatters.

If the numbers are correct the absolute cheapest I think I could do a run would be 2,057,580 meat. There are some 0 assumed values I have to pay for like buffs I don't have the skills to cast myself. I use a fair chunk of MP restores to do a run also. I usually try to pay for the dungeon instance which is another 250,000 meat.

Now, if the target ML is 1340 and someone kills a slime at 0 monster level when going for a gall bladder squeeze, how many +ML for limited turns is required to negate that? Say if you have 20 turns of Optimist Primal and 30 of Billiards Belligerence. Would that be enough to negate 1 mistaken slime kill at 0 ML?

Hmm. It helps if I hit save before uploading

Yeah, most of the castable buffs I left at 0 since their costs are both effectively negligible and extremely variable depending on the source. If you're dead set on adding it, just change the respective cost column on the Data sheet.

The rounding is strange-- the only values rounded are the stomach/spleen/livers (rounded up), cost (rounded up, in the case that the actual value needed turned out to be fractional) turns [pink, rounded up], numbers of tatters/poppers required and ML needed to hit a target number of turns.

You'd need to add ((MLy-MLt)/T) ML to compensate for the loss in damage in T turns. So if you had 30 turns to compensate for losing a kill at 1340ML, you'd need to raise your ML by 45.

MLy = Your [higher] ML
MLt = Their [lower] ML
T = turns to compensate.

The guide assumes sauceror and 15 turns per potion if you have the sauceror skill.  :'(  An option asking if you're a sauceror and another if you have the Impetuous Sauciness skill might be good. I can see some poor muscle class without the skill thinking they can get by pretty cheap and having to spend >3x as much for some potions.

I was wondering why it was costing me more than the estimates. That and some items are cheap the first few you buy and then they go way up. Cologne of contempt was 1k cheaper for the first few and then the cheap ones were all gone. I know you can't help the price thing and I'm just ranting. :)

5/10/15 has now been added in. (Cologne of contempt is the only thing, right?)

I've been talking to Malthan about his mall price tracking script-- seeing if it can pull out and spit out data in a form that can be easily applied here.

-----

Things are now in charts, so they're sortable. Added the +20ML from the bag o' tricks. Re-fixed the turncount. Can now punch in numbers for the accessories you can wear multiples of. And a a few more buffs I missed. Proper rounding down of the rat ML.

There is a subtle error on the spreadsheet. If you put in that you want a 230 turn run it spits out a flat rate of 1340 ML required. If gall bladder squeezes are part of the equation the numbers are actually not correct since there are 5 turns at the beginning of the run that don't add to the kill count at all. I think this is why some of my runs were so close when I thought I was running extra ML. I think if you run 1340 ML based on 5 gall bladder squeezes the run would actually fail.

Oh is there a way to use a grayed out font for ML of unselected items so you can see what ML they would add before you actually x them?

Wasn't so much a subtle error as a an intentional element that was probably a bad idea to incorporate that way. (After all-- that it takes five turns to squeeze has no bearing on the impact of ML...) Incorporated now, though.

And... there's no easy way to pull that one off, short of restructuring the entire setup. However, equipment is [by default] grouped from highest-to-lowest by its equip slot. Showing the sub-info for the buffs is a simple addition though.

Got a pile of work to get through, so it probably won't be posted until tomorrow eveningish.

-----

Though I could just make it wider [and uglier] and just add a new column that shows how much each thing is worth.

Newnewnew! The attached script, originally by Malthan which I further expanded (as well as cutting down on delay... bad protocol, I know, but...) when used in conjunction with the newly added third sheet allows for up-to-date computation of item costs. A word of caution: It only shows the lowest item cost, regardless of quantity. You have been warned. (And it'll be cleaned up whenever I feel like it.)

The turns seem to accurately reflect squeezes now. That'll save someone from failing. :)

Gender? What's that there for?

I'll probably ignore the script. It's useless if it doesn't get close to an average estimated price. Manually entering that data isn't so bad if you really want it.
