Okay. Recently collective clan things have been getting more salient in KoL, such as the Awesome Ball Pit, the ViP stuff like the Crimbo Tree, etc.
I think that the, on the whole, this content is generally fun and good. However, I have some reservations about the relationship between the mechanical impact of this new content and the direction that it's pushing KoL as a social game.
Basically, it's mechanically superior to be in a clan consisting of 800 people with little contact with each other to being in a clan consisting of 20 people who consider each other friends. (Or, at least, internet friends.) Even if those 20 people are super-committed to their little clan to the point where they have no problems getting a 10,000 ball pit, a crimbo tree in their ViP room, etc, they're making comparatively big per-capita sacrifices compared to the
average Seven Lances member. If KoL is very much a social game to you to the point where it's worthwhile to sacrifice mechanical benefits so that you can be in a clan with your friends, then that option is still open to you, but the point is that now you definitely have to make a choice between them. (Unless, of course, you are a member of a big clan and you find that clan to be good socially too. I don't want to paint all big clans as soulless, or, for that matter, paint all small clans as sociable and friendly.)
I don't think this is exactly what anyone wanted. I certainly doubt that Jick has some nefarious plan to drive people from small clans into the megaclans. The point is, though, that this is what I'm seeing as a likely effect.
