Item of the Month Discussion
« on: July 03, 2007, 12:17:32 PM »
I thought it'd be nice to have a place for people to voice opinions on the Mr Store Items.  Reviews, pros and cons, what kind of player will benefit most etc.

Of particular worth: reviews by older players that can guide newer clannies toward the better deals in items of the month.  Will this month's item quickly increase in value?  A lively discussion will make sure we're all getting our $10 worth.

Okay. Before NS13, my favourite IotM was the libram, but since NS13, its become far less useful (and the price has dropped severely, as with most IotM). I still like it, but don't see it as essential.

My favourites are now Pilgrim Shield, and the Great Ball of Fire. The items you get from it are surprisingly useful (at least in my eyes). I always have the flaming pink shirt equipped, and for a moxie class, usually use the flaming jugglers ball's. No stat requirements on a ranged weapon that increases stats, definately even more useful for NS13 (with the nerfing of the sombrero, and by extention, the Ice Sickles).

As for this months i've not, as of yet, tried it out, but it looks good. Not great, but certainly solid, though i was hoping for a melee weapon (which i think is long since overdue)

wait, how has it become less useful?  :o ??? I don't know, I'm still using it pretty regularly.

bad penguin egg was nice...too bad the price is rock bottom.
Sometimes, it helps to just let your dilemmas or tough descisions go away. Kind of like the line-item veto.

As far as the Bottle-Rocket crossbow goes, I imagine it'll rise in price gradually, but nothing spectacular, based solely on the nice +meat and +items bonus it gives you (in theory, dual-wielding two would give you the highest meat gain available from a weapon/offhand combination).  As an actual item you would want to use on a daily-adventuring basis it is disctinctly 'meh' - the bottle rockets aren't that great.

However...the +15% moxie is nice and this item combines beautifully with the Travoltan trousers (+15 moxie and +10 ranged damage).  As a moxie class that combination is pretty much all you'll need up to level 11 or so - and Travoltan trousers are still pretty reasonably priced in the mall.

In other news - prices of ice items have dropped about 1.5 mill in response to easier access to +ML with all moon signs, whereas the JEW hats are starting to increase dramatically in response to the buff nerf - if you can afford it, i'd get one now.

I imagine the reason for the lower usefulness is that the candy hearts were ideal for getting you early into the gallery for wad farming - and as antiques no longer pulverise into wads...

Exactly, +15 to stat boosts aren't useful now for the time it takes to get them. Most of the time you are adventuring at level, on the quickest runs, because of all the delays from the new content (at least, thats what i have found)

I have a pilgrim shield and a plastic pumpkin bucket, which I use all the time.  I like both of them a lot, especially the shield.  I'm looking into getting another Mr. Store item of some type, but I'm not sure which one I should get yet.

In terms of Mr A items I run around with, I have the following which I am happy to offer advice on whether they are worth the investment or not, how to make best use of them, etc, etc.:

Jewel-Eyed wizard hat (bought with meat)
2 x Ice Sickle/ice items in general (donated for one, bought the other in the NS-13 price crash)
Travoltan Trousers (donated)
2 x Mr A Jr (bought)
Plastic Pumpkin Bucket (donated)
Mayflower Bouquet (bought)
Pilgrim Shield (bought)
Bottle-Rocket Crossbow (donated)
Grimoire of Hilarious item summoning (bought)
Libram of Candy Heart Summoning (donated)
Cymbal-Playing Monkey (donated)
Dandy Lion (donated)
Green Pixie (bought with a donated Mr A - thanks to Bawb)
V for Vivala Mask (bought)
Flaming Pink Shirt/fire items generally (bought)
Libram of Divine Party Favor Summoning (bought)
Navel Ring of Navel Gazing (bought)
Riding Crop/sleaze items generally (bought)
Hatrack (bought)

I mention my method of acquiring them as I don't meat farm, merely sell my excess items in my mall shop and spend a some time every now and then in /trade - a little time and effort is all that is needed to start your IotM collection.

I don't think the tome is worth the price, but the travoltan trousers are good, if nothing else for the moxie increase, which is useful for whatever class you play.

They are on my first day pull list, but further down, and i could do without them, but they are pretty good.

Tome is not worth it unless your a serious hardcore player. Not even sure its worth it for speedcore right now. WAY better ways to spend that meat.

Travs are a nice buy. Not as good as they were (READ Saving epic meat on loti), but still a nice pull for most people.

Others:

Sickle, Shield = Great for softcore
JEW hat = Buffbot god item. Useful in Softcore too.
Familiar items are all worth it, such as lips and pumpkin.
Jekyllin is hawtness.
Skills are nice items, but not really game breaking  like they could be in NS11.
Familairs are hit and miss. Best would be: Shaman, Lion, Pixie, Hobo.

Rollin through you clans, recruitin your d00ds since Feb 2007.

The +15 moxie is nice, but better still is the initiative boost which saves you the effort of running fusilli all the time if you are boosting monster level.

Actually, boosting ML now seems to dramatically increase enemy init.
